About this overlook
The French Broad River originates near Rosman, North Carolina, where the North, West, Middle, and East Forks come together. The river flows north and west for 187 miles through North Carolina and Tennessee before reaching Douglas Lake. The name was given by fur traders, with "Broad" referring to the river's great width and "French" distinguishing it from another nearby river in English territory.
