Parkway Overlooks is committed to respecting the privacy of individuals while providing a community-driven collection of scenic overlooks and photographs along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This Image Upload Policy explains the requirements for images submitted to Parkway Overlooks and how submitted images are processed.
This policy applies to photographs submitted as part of an overlook submission as well as photographs uploaded to existing overlooks on Parkway Overlooks.
To help protect the privacy of visitors and other individuals, photographs submitted to Parkway Overlooks must not contain identifiable people as the primary or intentional subject of the image.
Please do not intentionally photograph or submit images of individuals, groups, families, children, or other people visiting an overlook. This requirement helps us maintain a privacy-conscious platform and reduces the possibility of publishing someone's image without their knowledge or consent.
We understand that people may occasionally appear incidentally in photographs of busy overlooks, trails, roads, or other public areas. Images containing people incidentally may be reviewed by our moderation team and may be rejected or edited if individuals are clearly identifiable or their presence creates a privacy concern.
When taking photographs for Parkway Overlooks, please make a reasonable effort to avoid including other people in the frame.
Do not submit photographs containing personal or sensitive information. This includes, but is not limited to, documents, identification cards, addresses, phone numbers, license plates, private property information, or other information that could unnecessarily identify or expose another person.
Images submitted to Parkway Overlooks may contain embedded metadata such as EXIF information. This metadata can potentially contain information about the device used to take the photograph, the date and time the photograph was taken, and, depending on the device and settings, GPS location information.
As part of our image processing pipeline, submitted images are processed to remove embedded metadata before they are published on Parkway Overlooks. This helps prevent unnecessary technical and location information from being exposed through the published image file.
You should only submit photographs that you have the right to submit. By uploading an image, you represent that you have permission to submit the photograph and that doing so does not knowingly violate another person's copyright, privacy rights, or other applicable rights.
Do not upload photographs obtained from another person, website, social media platform, or other source unless you have permission or otherwise have the legal right to use and submit the image.
All submitted images may be reviewed by the Parkway Overlooks moderation team before being published. We reserve the right to reject, remove, or restrict any image that violates this policy, our other policies, or applicable law.
An image may also be removed if we receive a legitimate privacy, copyright, or other rights-related concern regarding the image.
Removing image metadata does not guarantee that an image contains no information that could identify a person or location. The visual content of a photograph itself may contain identifying information.
Contributors should review their photographs before uploading them and avoid submitting images that reveal private, sensitive, or identifying information.
Images that violate this policy may be rejected or removed. Repeated or intentional violations may result in restrictions on a user's ability to submit images or other community content.
